What’s New?
We closed the Broadway 1st National Tour of Mean Girls! I was in the ensemble and understudied Karen Smith.
I was with the tour October 30th, 2022 through our closing show on May 7th, 2023.
KAREN REVIEWS
Fey has done us the favor of adding to the lexicon, giving us a slew of new material in the musical’s book that includes an almost wholesale rewriting of the character of Karen Smith — played last night by the brilliant Megan Grosso, stepping into the role from the ensemble but displaying some serious comedic chops in the vein of Julie Haggerty. I would say, in terms of new additions to the script, highlights mostly belong to Karen.
JAY BARMANN, SFist
Megan Grosso is also wonderfully comical as their blithely dim-witted friend Karen, usually played by Morgan Ashley Bryant.
Sam Hurwitt, The Mercury News
Some of the evening’s best laughs come from the underplayed mean girl, Karen (Megan Grosso filling in for Morgan Ashley Bryant), who is a lot smarter than she thinks.
Chad Jones, Theater Dogs
Karen Smith (Megan Grosso is wonderful).
Linda Hodges, Broadway World
Understudy Megan Grosso as the dim Karen was super funny. There wasn’t a moment where you didn’t have a smile watching her.
Lance Carter, Daily Actor
Understudy Megan Grosso was perfection as Karen, the self-described “dumb” Plastic who sleeps around.
Pam Kragen, The San Diego Union Tribune
The San Diego Union-Tribune Review
As each plastic gets her solo, their singing, dancing and acting are consistent with their characterization — Grosso in particular stands out with her over-enunciation of syllables and never-ending smiles… Grosso’s song about Halloween, ‘Sexy,’ is hilariously in-tune with the character of Karen. Aided by her long blonde locks and ability to perform charismatic idiocy, Grosso’s showing is stellar not only because of her vocals or dancing, but because of her acting chops. Karen is brought to life in a way that rivals Amanda Seyfried’s original film performance due to Grosso’s optimistic and reliably bubbly demeanor — and the occasional brilliant fourth-wall-breaking one-liner.

The ensemble is top-notch and really showcases Matthew Sklar’s snappy harmonies and director/choreographer, Casey Nicholaw’s appropriately cheesy and fabulously fun choreography.

A musical like The Prom is only as good as its ensemble and I have to tell you that this is one of the hardest working ensembles I’ve seen in a while.

For Tuesday night’s performance we are met with the Understudy for Emma, and Mr. Hawkins. From the first moment, she steps onto the stage Megan Grosso is a standout. Her first solo in “Just Breathe” captures our heart as her vocal power shines through and we travel along through the plight of her journey. Megan is top-notch here and should be commended for her performance.

BWW Review: THE PROM Sparkles and Shines at Straz Center For Performing Arts
This ensemble is hands down the best ensemble I have seen in recent months. Each member, not a weak link to be seen are in it 100 percent every step of the way. I think that is what makes this show so entertaining, so uplifting, you have a stellar ensemble who are in the moment as much as the principals and it makes this story truly grounded and believe-able every second.

“You Happened,” featuring Grosso and West and the ensemble, is touching and teenaged…The show’s anchors, Grosso, Balan, and Wetzel, are splendid throughout. Grosso’s “Just Breathe” and “Unruly Heart” reveal what the real stakes are for a teen coming out.

Review: Music, dancing make ‘The Prom’ at Proctors a first-rate production
“The Prom’s” heart may belong to Broadway but its soul belongs to Emma (played — and very effectively, I might add — on the night I saw “The Prom” by Kaden Kearney’s understudy Megan Grosso); and Kalyn West in a heart-wrenching performance as Emma’s secret girlfriend, Alyssa. Their memorable duet, “Dance With You,” is filled with grace, love, hope.

Speaking of the dancing, the group numbers are perfection! … And the ensemble sells it all beautifully; the joy on their faces when performing is heartwarming.

…the most sensational of multi-tasking song-and-dance ensembles.
